Carbon Offset Scotland's primary schools community project was officially launched in March at Edinburgh Airport by Gordon Dewar - Managing Director of the Airport!
The primary schools participating are Cramond, Clermiston, Hillwood, Ratho and Kirkliston. As you can see in the pictures some of them got to opportunity to have a good look round the airport.
With the help of The Tree Amigos, the schools will build up a portfolio of information as they work through various mini-projects that will teach them about the environment and wildlife habitats.
Becky Stevenson, teacher at Clermiston Primary School, said "The children are loving the project and are having lots of fun working together in teams - and their knowledge has already increased dramatically. They are also creating a classroom and corridor display for the other classes to see. It really has gone well beyond the classroom and my class is really proud to be taking part."
Angus Crabbie of Carbon Offset Scotland said: "We see education as being of paramount importance within our industry and thanks to the support of BAA Communities Trust, The Tree Amigos have been brought to life. The project was designed to be educational and fun, and we also hope to learn something about how children view the environment and the problems associated with climate change."
Gordon Dewar, managing director, BAA Edinburgh said: "We are delighted to support this imaginative project. The children involved have shown great enthusiasm for the project and will hopefully will learn valuable life lessons about the environment as a result. It's a great example of how we can all play a part, however small, in safeguarding the natural environment.
